The Spokane utility Tuesday announced the proposed November launch of electronic billing via the Internet.
The free service, called E-Bill, will be offered through CheckFree, which already clears electronic transactions for 1,000 businesses and 850 financial institutions, including Seafirst Bank.
Kevin Hennessey, WWP’s product line manager for billing services, said surveys indicate about 30 percent of its 350,000 customers are on the Web.
Those who choose to subscribe to the new service will be able to pay their bills with a keystroke, he said.
Information contained in bill stuffers will be added to the bottom of the electronic bill or accessed using a hot key that takes users to the company’s Web site, Hennessey said.
He said the bills themselves will be identical to those WWP customers receive in the mail.
The company will continue to offer services alternatives like Comfort Level billing and Preferred Pay Date, he added.
