Block Program A Hit
More than 7 million acres of land in Montana is enrolled in the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department’s popular Block Management Program (BMP) this year, according to the state agency.
The program enables hunters to make arrangements to hunt on private land. In return, participating landowners get a small cash incentive and increased wildlife enforcement.
This year all regional Block Management hunting guide pamphlets were printed using the same format. Incorporated into the guides is a section explaining how the program works, a map or maps showing general locations of all regional areas, a chart containing specific information about specific BMP areas and general information about the program.
In addition, BMP details are on the department’s World Wide Web site.
In some areas this year, BMP maps will be distributed by landowners only to those hunters who receive permission to hunt. Some BMP areas have instituted “rest days,” when no hunting is allowed.
Other areas may offer big game hunting and bird hunting on alternate days.
