Bowhunter’S Checklist

Add Spokesman-Review on Google

Here is a list to consider when tuning gear for the archery seasons:

See that the bowstring nock point is lined up with the arrow rest.

Make sure there are no squeaks when the bow is drawn (which would frighten game). Lubricate squeaky spots.

Inspect the bowstring for frayed or broken fibers.

Double-check that the arrows are the proper length and weight for the draw-weight of the bow.

Make sure the arrows are straight. Even a slight curve will make them inaccurate.

Inspect the blades of the broadhead points. Sharpen or replace any that are dull or nicked.

Examine fletching and replace damaged feathers or plastic.

Make sure the field tip used in practice weighs about the same as broadheads used for hunting.

Replace chipped or cracked nocks.

Test bow fittings to make sure none have vibrated loose.
