Timber Burning Along Columbia
More than 300 acres of timber were burning in northeast Washington along the Columbia River late Monday, Colville National Forest officials said.
The fire, in steep terrain three miles southwest of Northport, began about 1 p.m. Monday. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, officials said.
It poses a threat to homes in the Squaw Creek area about one mile northeast of the fire.
Crews from across Washington and Oregon have been called in to help fight the blaze. They expect to have it contained by Thursday, officials said.
