Easter Observances Area Churches Offering A Variety Of Services And Events In The Closing Days Of Holy Week

Today is Maundy Thursday, the start of the final holy days of Lent.

Many South Side and West Plains churches are making plans to welcome the community to a variety of Easter services and events.

When making your Easter plans, remember to set your clocks an hour ahead Saturday evening, since daylight-saving time begins Sunday.

Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand Blvd., will have a service today at 7 p.m. An Easter vigil will run from noon to midnight Friday.

An Easter breakfast will be served at 7:45 a.m., and services begin at 8:45 and 11 a.m. Breakfast participants are asked to donate.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 314 S. Spruce, will have services at 7 p.m. today and Friday. An additional service will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Easter will be celebrated with a potluck breakfast at 9:15 a.m. Sunday preceding a worship service at 10:30 a.m.

Worship services begin at 7 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. today at Our Beautiful Savior Lutheran church, 4320 S. Conklin. An organ prayer concert begins at noon.

Additional Holy Week services will be offered at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Breakfast will be served from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Easter services begin at 7:30 and 10 a.m.

Participants at the breakfast are asked to donate.

Cheney United Methodist Church, 204 Fourth, will have a service at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday. In addition, an ecumenical service starts at 4 p.m. Friday.

Easter services begin at 6:15, 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday. A continental breakfast will be served from 7 to 9 a.m., and a pancake breakfast will be served from 9 to 10:45 a.m.

Donations will be accepted. The church will also host a potluck Seder meal at 6 p.m. Monday.

Holy Week services will be at 7 p.m. today and Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2 W. Third. The Easter celebrations will begin with early devotions at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, followed by a potluck breakfast at 9 a.m. A worship service begins at 10:30 a.m.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th, will host services at 7:30 p.m. today and Friday. An Easter vigil begins at 9 p.m. Saturday.

Easter Sunday services begin at 8 and 10:45 a.m. and will include the adult and children’s choirs, trumpet players and a percussionist.

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th, will host a simple supper today at 6 p.m. preceding a worship service at 7 p.m. Those planning to attend the meal are asked to register by calling the cathedral office at 838-4277.

Additional services will also be hosted at 7 a.m. today and Friday in the cathedral chapel and at 7 p.m. Friday. An Easter vigil begins at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The Easter celebration begins with a carillon concert at 7:45 a.m. with an additional concert beginning at 10:15 a.m. Worship services begin at 8:30 and 11 a.m. with the cathedral choir and brass and handbell choirs performing.

Worship services begin at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. today at Central Lutheran Church, 309 W. Fifth. An additional service begins at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Easter celebration includes services at 8:45 and 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The church youth will serve breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Donations will be taken at the meal.

The choir of Highland Park United Methodist Church will present the cantata “Stations of the Cross” during a worship service at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Easter celebration begins with a sunrise service at 7 a.m. Sunday followed by a breakfast at 8 a.m. and an Easter egg hunt at 9:30 a.m. Donations will be taken for the meal, and the egg hunt is open to all children through grade six.

An additional service will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Services will begin at 7 p.m. today and Friday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5720 S. Perry. The Stations of the Cross will begin at 12:10 p.m. Friday, and an Easter vigil will start at 7 p.m. Saturday. Easter services start at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday.

Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline, will host worship services at 7:30 p.m. today and Friday. Easter services will be offered at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sunday.

The Spokane Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will host Easter egg hunts during the 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services on Sunday.

Covenant Christian Church, 5616 S. Palouse Highway, will have a service at 7 p.m. today and a 24-hour prayer vigil beginning at 6 p.m. Friday. Easter will be celebrated with a service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Park Heights Baptist Church, 5101 S. Freya, will have a worship service at 7 p.m. Friday. The service will include a comparison of 14 Old Testament prophecies and the New Testament Crucifixion events.

A Maundy Thursday service begins at 7 p.m. today at Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 W. 29th.

Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard, will have a worship service at 7 p.m. Friday. A prayer vigil will be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The senior and junior choirs will perform during Easter services at 9 and 11 a.m. on Sunday.

Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third, will have a worship service at 7 p.m. today. An Easter service begins at 10 a.m. Sunday followed by an Easter egg hunt at Pioneer Park at Seventh and Howard.

Kids up to grade six may participate in the hunt.

Lincoln Heights Congregational Church will have a service today at 7 p.m.

The church is located at 3527 E. 29th.

The Roman Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes begins its Easter observance with Masses at 7 p.m. today and Friday. The Stations of the Cross begin at 3 p.m. Friday. An Easter vigil with performances by the cathedral choir, with brass accompaniment, begins at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Easter Sunday Masses begin at 6:30, 9 and 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The cathedral is located at 1115 W. Riverside.
