Defending State 4A boys soccer cham pion Ferris is up to its old tricks.
Kevin Aronson scored 15 minutes apart in the first half Wednesday to lead Ferris to a 3-1 victory at University in the Greater Spokane League.
Ferris, which opened the season with one win in three non-league matches, is tied for first place in the GSL with Central Valley.
David Massey scored at 8 minutes for U-Hi, one of six GSL teams with 1-1 records.
Also in the league, Ben Zimmerman and Andy Cooper scored to lift CV to a 2-0 win at North Central.
NC (1-1) had a goal waved off in the first minute on an offsides call. The Indians hadn’t lost in seven matches this season.
Nick Ascolese scored at 2:10 on a short stop that hit the crossbar and far post as Gonzaga Prep (1-1) defeated visiting Lewis and Clark 1-0. LC (1-1) missed on a last-minute free kick from 35 yards.
Steven Wells scored before halftime on a shot that glanced off a defender and Shadle Park (1-1) edged visiting Mt. Spokane 1-0. A Mt. Spokane (1-1) shot with 30 seconds left sailed just over the bar.
Matt Folsom set up the second goal and scored the third to lead Mead (1-1) to a 3-0 triumph over Rogers (0-2) at Mead Middle School.
Softball
Kaylene Fountain pitched her first no-hitter, a nine-inning decision that included 12 strikeouts, and doubled in the only run as Lewis and Clark defeated Shadle Park 1-0 in a GSL game at Hart Field.
LC (3-0) took over the league lead from University (2-0) and dropped Shadle (1-1) into sixth place.
Highlanders pitcher Jessica Murray struck out 14. She walked Sarah Travis to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning, then yielded Fountain’s double following a sacrifice bunt.
The game began Thursday but was suspended by darkness.
