Irvine Swimmers Win

The Irvine, Calif., Novaquatics, led by rejuvenated Amanda Beard, won the combined men’s and women’s team titles as the National Swimming Championships ended at East Meadow, N.Y.

American swimmer Jenny Thompson broke her own world record by more than one second in the 100-meter individual medley, clocking 59.30 during qualifying heats in the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Hong Kong.
