Blue Chips Lead Dow Into Record Territory

From Staff

The Dow Jones industrial average soared to a new record Wednesday as investors sought the relative safety of blue-chip stocks as they nervously await corporate profit reports.

Broader stock indicators were mixed, reflecting the fact that investors are concerned about unpredictable technology stocks.

Bank stocks, automakers, and long-time favorites like AT&T drove the rally, as the Dow rose 121.82. It was the Dow’s third close above 10,000, and eclipsed the previous high of 10,007.33, reached Monday.
