Heroic Teacher New Administrator

The teacher who disarmed Barry Loukaitis after the teenager shot and killed three people in a classroom is returning to Frontier Junior High as assistant principal.

Jon Lane has been principal at a middle school in Warden since 1996.

He will return July 1 to Frontier, where he will become assistant principal, Moses Lake Schools Superintendent Steve Chestnut announced this week.

Lane is credited with disarming Loukaitis after the then-14-year-old burst into a classroom and fatally shot a teacher and two classmates, and severely wounded a third on Feb. 2, 1996.

Loukaitis is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
