The social experiment in Latah County continues. First, the three feminists on the Moscow City Council procured the right of their sisters to bare breasts in public. Now, the two Democrats on the Latah County commission have voted to extend insurance benefits to same-sex partners. So much for common sense and family values in Latah County. With Democrats like these, Republicans will rule conservative Idaho until the Second Coming (of Jesus, not Bella Abzug) no matter how pathetically the R’s perform.

At TUFKAWWP, pleasing CEO is Job One

In mid-February, The Utility Formerly Known As Washington Water Power stopped accepting payments at area offices and laid off 10 worker bees. It did so to save $500,000 annually. Now, we know why the utility needed the extra dough. Gettalodda the signing package handed new CEO Tom Matthews: $1 million signing bonus, $2 million worth of stock, a $750,000 salary and other perks. And he can’t even rebound … Oh well, Matthews should have a better year than Bobby Ayala, the atrocious ex-Mariner reliever who’ll earn $1.8 million this summer throwing gopher balls in Montreal … It Wags the Dog: Now that “slaughtered” Kosovar intellectuals have surfaced, alive and well, it’s time to ask ourselves: What happens when the tail is smarter than the dog?

Fan Mail: Let’s gas out gas gougers

Why, asked Gene Morris, was regular gas selling for $1.29.9 per gallon on Kathleen Avenue and $1.19.9 on Apple Way, a hop, skip and jump away? He noticed the disparity Thursday while taking his grandkids to school. In other words, Gene thought I cut local gas gougers too much slack in Thursday by not backing a proposed April 30 gas boycott … Sweet Potatoes to Kootenai County authorities for refusing to use teen decoys to try to catch merchants selling smokes to minors. Post Falls Police Chief Cliff Hayes explained why: “I just don’t think it’s necessary to try to entrap retailers.” Bingo … Say, didn’t you use to be a term-limits supporter? … I don’t like the shock of falling backward and springing forward each year. If we’re going to keep daylight-saving time, however, it’d be nice if GTE changed its clocks within a few days afterward to acknowledge the event.
