College women’s golf

With three of the top five scorers, led by medalist Julie Wells, Idaho won its own Vandal Spring Invitational that wound up a 54-hole run Monday on the UI Golf Course.

Wells, a freshman, led the scoring for a second straight tournament, this time with a 12-over-par 228. Teammate Sara Thompson was third at 234 behind Boise State’s Jamie Jou (231) and the Vandals’ Elizabeth Carter shared fourth with Eastern Washington’s Kylie Smith at 235. Smith was low Monday with a 5-over 77.

College basketball

North Idaho College center Jason Keep committed to Oklahoma State after visiting the Cowboys’ campus in Stillwater during the weekend.

The 6-foot-11 Keep, who plays at about 290 pounds, will have three years of eligibility.

Keep also visited Colorado. He will cancel trips to Florida State, Tulsa and Tennessee.

High school baseball

St. John-Endicott could have left the bats home when the Eagles visited Tekoa-Oakesdale for a Whitman County League doubleheader. The Nighthawks put together back-to-back no-hitters.

Matt Mengel had 11 strikeouts and walked five in a five-inning, 16-0 win in the first game. And Pat Heaton had three strikeouts and eight walks in a 21-2, five-inning second-game win. An error and a balk helped the winless Eagles score their two runs.
