Bonner Lake Upgrade
Bonner Lake, a 23-acre lake east of Moyie Springs, Idaho, will be managed as a quality trout fishing lake when it’s opened to fishing April 24.
The lake was treated with rotenone last fall, he said. The toxicant killed stunted bass and pumpkinseed sunfish.
Unfortunately, some sunfish survived the treatment, said Ned Horner, Idaho Fish and Game Department regional fisheries manager.
Department biologists are working with the British Columbia fisheries agency to stock the lake with “black water” rainbows, which are more predacious that other rainbow strains and are expected to eat a lot of sunfish.
The lake also will be stocked with sterile triploid rainbows from Canada.
The limit will be two 14-inch or longer rainbows a day.
