Dow Hits Another Record High Close

From Staff

Investors continued to unload technology stocks in favor of blue-chip industrial companies Friday, sending the Dow Jones industrial average to its fifth straight closing high.

The downturn in technology stocks, which have been pummeled throughout the week, left broader market indicators lower.

The Dow rose 31.17, having set closing records every day this week.

The last time the blue-chip index pulled off that feat was March 16 through 20 of last year. The record is 12 consecutive closings from Jan. 5 through 20 of 1987.

For the five days, the Dow rose 320.05, giving it a 661-point gain over the past two weeks.
