Quarterback Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers said former coach Mike Holmgren told him last season that his office was always open.
“Then you’d go in there and get chewed out,” Favre told the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

To say that Diane and Walter Witt are fans of Jeff Gordon is putting it lightly.
Their Johnson City, Tenn., home features checkered flags and rainbow banners and a sign calling it “Jeff Gordon Boulevard.”
Several life-size cutouts of a smiling Gordon and a 9-by-7-foot oil painting of him and his rainbow-colored, No. 24 Chevrolet Monte Carlo also adorn the porch.
But there are standards. Diane Witt planted flowers in the shape of a “24” in the front yard but promptly removed them when they started to wilt.
“I won’t do anything to disgrace him,” she said.
Well, we all must have our standards.
A real taste for soccer
Chelsea midfielder Dennis Wise may be in trouble because he bit an opponent during the European Cup Winners’ Cup soccer semifinal against Real Mallorca of Spain.
As Wise and Mallorca defender Elena Marcelino fought for the ball soon after Chelsea had tied the score, Marcelino appeared to scrape his fingernails down the Chelsea midfielder’s neck.
Television pictures showed Wise, who is several inches shorter than Marcelino, either biting or trying to bite the defender’s upper arm.
Ah, those fickle fans
NBA analyst Bill Walton said Michael Jordan would be in a no-win situation if he returns in almost any capacity to the NBA.
“No matter what he does, people will want more from him,” Walton wrote in the Sporting News. “If Jordan becomes the owner of an NBA team, people will want him to coach. If he coaches, fans will want him to play. And if he plays, they will want him to be the MVP.”
They don’t like her pitch
Local girl Heather Kozar, Playboy magazine’s newest Playmate of the Year, was supposed to throw out a ceremonial first pitch at Friday night’s Akron Aeros baseball game.
It didn’t happen - but not just because the game with the Harrisburg Senators was rained out.
Team officials thumbed Kozar out of the game because too many fans balked at the idea of a Playmate being promoted at America’s national sport.
The Aeros, a Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, received more than 100 irate phone calls after a small item about Kozar’s planned appearance was published in Friday’s Akron Beacon Journal.
She didn’t, uh, measure up as family entertainment.
