Two Arrested On Forgery Charge

A Greenacres man and a Spokane woman were arrested Friday afternoon on suspicion of trying to pass forged checks at the Spokane Valley Mall.

Johnie L. Vick, 28, of 17223 E. Coach, and Lorrinne J. Springer, 28, of 1908 W. Gardener, were arrested on suspicion of forgery.

Deputies said they believe Vick and Springer passed at least eight checks worth almost $600 at various mall stores Friday afternoon.

A clerk at Miller’s Outpost, a casual clothing store, told deputies she recognized the name on the check when a woman was trying to buy shorts and a hair clip. The clerk said she knew the suspect wasn’t the person listed on the check.

Mall security officers held the suspects.

Deputies said they found a checkbook and loose checks, a Visa card and food coupons with different names. They also found a syringe with what they believe was methamphetamine.

Vick and Springer were arrested and taken to Spokane County Jail.
