Man Drowned, Autopsy Shows

A man whose body was found floating in a southwestern Spokane County lake on Wednesday evening drowned, an autopsy has determined.

Three anglers spotted Terry Dean Canoy’s body about 7 p.m. near his overturned boat in Fish Lake, Spokane County sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.

The men pulled Canoy’s body out of the water, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said.

Canoy, 50, lived in a small home near the lake. He left to go fishing about three hours before his body was discovered, a relative told deputies.

Deputies weren’t sure how Canoy fell overboard, but the back of a bolt-on seat in the boat was broken off.

Canoy wasn’t wearing a life preserver and none was found in his boat or nearby, deputies said.
