Two Women Held On Robbery Charges

Two Spokane women on an alleged shoplifting spree Friday carried a shopping list into a North Side store and left with nearly $300 in electronics and other items.

Shannon R. McGee, 34, and Melissa R. Peterson, 23, were stopped by a security guard outside the Fred Meyer at 525 E. Francis and later arrested by Spokane Police.

According to police, one of the women kicked the guard as he approached their cart. The other woman jumped onto the guard, hitting and scratching him.

A second store employee helped the guard subdue the women, but one broke away and jumped into the back of a waiting pickup truck. The guard grabbed the woman’s clothing as the truck sped away, pulling her out of the truck bed.

Peterson and McGee were booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery.

McGee told police the shopping list contained several items specifically requested by the truck’s driver, who eluded police.

McGee also told police she’d stolen between $4,000 and $5,000 in merchandise from the Fred Meyer since she left Geiger Work Release in June. She gave her address as 1734 E. Courtland.

Police said they also found drug paraphernalia on Peterson, who gave her address as 2911 E. Fairview.
