Break-In Targets Computer Gear

Burglars stole nearly $30,000 in computer equipment during weekend break-ins at adjoining offices on Canfield Avenue.

The thieves appear to have broken out a window at Compass International and used an unlocked common door to get into Clark, Anderson, McNelis and Company, an adjoining accounting firm at 460 W. Canfield Ave. Police found pieces of glass that had been scored and duct taped before they were broken out of a window on the north side of Compass International, a business specializing in organizing conferences and training programs.

About $20,000 worth of computers were stolen from the accounting business, according to police reports. Another $9,500 worth of computer equipment and $500 in cash was taken from Compass International.

Police have determined the burglaries happened after 11 p.m. Saturday night. Employees at both businesses discovered the burglaries when they reported to work Monday morning.
