Valley Man Arrested For Theft

A Spokane Valley man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a car and stealing stereo equipment early Monday morning.

Jay L. Cleveland, 23, of 505 N. Mamer, was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail for second-degree theft.

According to Sheriff’s deputies, around 5:15 a.m. a woman in the 11400 block of East 28th Avenue called police and said she saw a man prowling the neighborhood and looking into cars. She said he had broken into her neighbor’s car.

A deputy responded and said he watched while the burglar left the car with a stereo in his hands. The burglar then walked through the yard.

The deputy said he followed the man and then arrested him after cutting him off on Bowdish between 28th and 29th avenues.

He said the man had a car stereo, black gloves, a CD case, two screwdrivers, a flashlight and pliers.

The woman who reported the crime then called her neighbor, who came to the scene and said he had purchased the stereo the day before.

Deputies turned over the stereo to the man. Additional investigation revealed the burglar had taken tools from his boss’ truck. His boss lived in the neighborhood.
