Would-Be Escapee Deterred By Cut Hand
A 20-year-old inmate at Geiger Corrections Center attempted to escape Thursday but cut himself on the razor wire fence and turned himself in instead.
Raymond L. Hurst, of Spokane, was charged with attempted second-degree escape, a felony charge.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department, Hurst stuffed his bedding to make it appear he was sleeping, then attempted to climb the center’s security fence about 11 p.m.
The inmate cut himself on the barbs of the razor wire topping the fence, changed his mind about escaping and surrendered to security staff, the sheriff’s department said.
Geiger staff said the cut was small and did not require stitches.
A sheriff’s deputy was called to the center and Hurst was arrested.
