Driver Flees After Collision

Tue., Aug. 10, 1999

A man driving a 1986 Chevy Nova crossed the center line on U.S. 95 north of Sandpoint on Monday, hitting three vehicles. He then fled the scene, according to the Idaho State Police. No one was seriously injured.

Around 1:05 p.m., the driver of the Nova drove left of the center line, sideswiping two cars. The Nova hit a 1997 Dodge truck driven by Nolan A. Lavery, 62, of Brooksville, Fla., and a 1994 Pontiac Grandprix driven by Walter A. Tschoepe, 62, of Bonners Ferry.

The Nova then hit a 1992 Chrysler Dynasty slightly head-on, making contact with the side of the vehicle. The Chrysler was driven by John C. Robinson, 68, of Saskatchewan, Canada.

Debris from the wreckage hit a 1990 Pontiac GrandAm driven by Kathy R. Gruver, 52, of Sandpoint.

The driver of the Nova attempted to flee the scene but only made it 200 feet before his car was disabled. He then fled on foot.

Authorities were unable to locate the driver after two hours of searching.
