Cruising Canoes

Mount Holly, N.J., planned a canoe race. But the drought left the Rancocas Creek to low for the boats to float. So organizers moved today’s Up the Creek Festival Canoe Derby to land. Instead of paddling a quarter-mile upstream, competitors will push their boats on wheels over 200 meters of paved street. Wheels were salvaged from shopping carts and affixed to the aluminum canoes.
