Murder Suspect’S Bail Set At $1 Million
A former apartment building manager accused of killing a woman and burning her body in a basement furnace was ordered held in the Spokane County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail Friday.
Stanley L. Pietrzak, 45, said little during his first appearance in Spokane County District Court.
He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Kelly Conway, 24. Conway’s charred remains were found in a furnace in the basement of the Helen Apartments, 123 S. Adams, in April.
Pietrzak, who once managed the Helen, was arrested Wednesday at the jail, where he is serving a one-year sentence on an unrelated sex crime.
Neighbors told authorities he had bragged of killing Conway and burning her body. Conway disappeared in November.
Detectives used DNA evidence to identify her remains.
