Panhandle Fire Danger Limits Burn Permits
The Idaho Department of Lands and U.S. Forest Service say there is a high fire danger in the northern Panhandle.
So far this season, 139 acres have burned in Bonner County as a result of 47 fires started by people. Lightning strikes ignited another 22 fires, burning 10 more acres. The cost of suppressing human-caused fires is $81,072 through July. Total fire suppression costs were $83,869.
The forecast calls for more dry weather and the potential for large wildfires.
The Department of Lands and Forest Service are requesting that all burning be suspended unless absolutely necessary. Burn permits will be issued only on a case-by-case basis.
