Purses Taken From Workplaces

A recent series of purse thefts has Spokane police warning citizens to be careful where they leave their handbags at work.

Employees at numerous businesses around town have reported purses being stolen from behind counters and other areas where people keep their handbags, police said.

Hospitals, warehouse discount stores and a major department store at NorthTown Mall have been hit, police said.

The thief or thieves steal cash and checks and try to use the victims’ credit cards, police said. In one case, $8,000 in fraudulent charges were racked up on one woman’s stolen credit card.

Police suggest that employees talk with their supervisors about security measures at their workplaces and possibly establish locked storage areas for personal items.
