My name is Scott Smits and I am running for Spokane City Council Seat 2. The voters of Spokane deserve to have representation on the City Council that is ethical, moral, and fiscally responsible. Those are qualities that I offer to you, the voters.

Fiscal responsibility in our city government is essential if Spokane wants to continue to thrive. In the past few years, I have watched our city officials waste millions of dollars chasing projects like the Lincoln Street bridge. With more responsible spending by our City Council, we would have more money to fix our roads, and pay for more police. With my experience in the private business sector, I understand fiscal responsibility and believe I could help guide the City Council into better spending decisions.

The rise of crime in our city is a major concern as the funding for police and other services continues to decrease. I have some unique ideas and programs to help our communities fight the crime and drugs that are seeping into our neighborhoods and schools, including giving back a minimum of 50 percent of my council salary to help the Spokane Youth Association develop programs to keep kids off the streets.
