Causing A Row
John Steinbeck immortalized Monterey, Calif., As a “stink, a grating noise.” in his novel “Cannery Row.” Now the stink along the famous wharf is over the town’s commercialization, and the grating noise is protests from businesses who desire tourist dollars. The nostalgia of Cannery Row and Doc and the boys’ old haunts have since been replaced by an aquarium, hotels, restaurants and a wax museum (featuring Steinbeck’s withered likeness.)
