Collision On Bridge Injures Driver, Causes Long Delay
A man was seriously injured and traffic backed up on the Maple Street Bridge for two hours following a car crash Monday, Spokane police said.
The collision occurred just north of the bridge about 9:30 a.m. when a man driving north on Maple slammed into the back of a city maintenance truck, police said.
The truck, which is part of a street-sweeping crew, was stopped in the road with its warning lights flashing, police said.
Two other motorists saw the truck was stopped, but the third did not and crashed into it.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered facial injuries and a fractured leg. He was listed in serious condition at a local hospital Monday afternoon.
Police did not release his name.
No one else was hurt.
