Evening Stock Trading Begins

Trading began with a trickle Wednesday in what amounted to the first real evening session ever held for individual investors on the East Coast and the first real afternoon session for those on the West Coast.

The new session from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time - or 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time - is being offered Monday through Thursday for customers of Discover Brokerage and Dreyfus Brokerage Services on an electronic exchange named MarketXT.

Wednesday’s launch by MarketXT, formerly named Eclipse Trading, comes amid a suddenly fierce scramble to roll out extended hours for individual investors as the stock market soars to new heights.
