Souped-Up Label

Campbell Soup Co. Is tampering with an American classic: its red-and-white soup label that has remained pretty much the same since 1898, a year after the company began producing condensed soups. During those 101 years, Campbell has only made 14 minor changes to the label. The New Jersey-based food maker will unveil the new label today in Pittsburgh, where a replica of the last can of tomato soup bearing the old label will be inducted into the Andy Warhol Museum. Warhol made the Campbell cans famous with his paintings in the 1960s. The familiar soup labels will begin disappearing by mid-September.
