Several Area Teams Will Get An Early Start
While the majority of high school fall sports teams in North Idaho open their seasons next week, a handful will get a head start.
Here’s what is on tap Saturday:
In football openers, Coeur d’Alene visits Lewiston at 7 p.m. while Kellogg travels to Salmon for a noon contest.
In volleyball, Priest River and Lakeland visit Post Falls while a handful of small schools meet in a Play Day at Mullan.
In a girls soccer match, Lewiston will travel to Post Falls. In cross country, a few area teams are entered in the Bonners Ferry Invitational.
Other teams jammin’
While Coeur d’Alene is playing for real, the rest of the area’s football teams will participate in a jamboree tonight at Lakeland. The controlled scrimmages begin at 6. Joining Lakeland are Lake City, Sandpoint, Post Falls and Moscow.
Two other football jamborees are scheduled.
St. Maries and Priest River meet Timberlake at Spirit Lake at 5, while Falls Christian, Clark Fork, Kootenai and Troy meet at Mullan at 3:30.
Boys and girls soccer teams from three schools meet in a jamboree Saturday morning at Lake City. Coeur d’Alene, Sandpoint and LC begin play at 10:30.
The jamborees serve as fundraisers for the Idaho High School Activities Youth Endowment for Activities (YEA) program which helps schools defray travel costs to state tournament activities. Admission to all jamborees is $4 for adults, $2 for students. No booster or student activity cards are honored at the events.
