Adams County Ritzville
Local duffer Darin Danekas qualified for his first professional golf tournament. Danekas will test his golf skills in the seven-month “Hooters Tour.” To make the grade, he finished 15th of 65 elite golfers in a qualifying tournament. Danekas is a 1993 Ritzville High grad and alumnus of the Portland State golf team.
Ferry County Curlew
Students in grades four through eight were recently rewarded for their knowledge of geography. Kids competed in the National Geographic Geography Bee, an annual event. The competition lasted nearly 90 minutes before a winner emerged. Carl Anderson took top honors, including a cash prize and trip to the state competition later this year.
Grant County Moses Lake
Local bambino baseball player Max Anderson won’t be lying when he tells classmates he was coached by Cal Ripken Jr. and Hideo Nomo. The sixth-grader attended a baseball camp in Hawaii during Christmas vacation sponsored by these major leaguers. Unlike camps where headliners show up to sign autographs, Nomo and Ripken worked out and even ate lunch with the youngsters.
Lincoln County Wilbur
The city foreman has given the mayor plenty of notice he will be resigning. Bob Kreb is planning to study environmental planning in the fall and will leave his post by September, if not earlier. Kreb’s wife, Debra, has accepted a job as Lewis County Public Works Department financial manager. Kreb remained in Wilbur because so many projects needed completion before he leaves.
Stevens County Colville
Local business owners were recently made aware of the Colville School District’s upcoming levy plight. Superintendent Rick Cole told the Chamber of Commerce how levy equalization has been unfair to Colville. The district must pass a levy the first time, which is historically difficult in Colville. If the $965,500 measure fails March 9, more than $1.5 million, including staff, will be cut from the budget.

Benewah County St. Maries
The St. Joe Valley Gun Show will be at the Eagles Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Idaho, Washington and Montana dealers will display guns, antiques, coins and ammunition. Bonner County Sandpoint
Auditions for “Alice in Wonderland” will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 15-16 at the Panida Theater. More than 30 speaking roles are available for ages 12 and up. The show will run April 16-17 and 23-24. Volunteers are also needed to help with backstage work, set production and lighting.
Boundary County Bonners Ferry

Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene
The Citizens’ Council for the Arts is sponsoring a poster contest for the 31st annual Art on the Green. A $300 prize will be awarded for the winning poster. The event will be July 30-Aug. 1. Latah County Moscow
Improvement projects on Mountain View Road by city crews should be completed within two years. Underground work to install storm drains to divert water from Paradise Creek and the Joseph Street area has been completed. The next step will be to install pipes to carry water away from Moscow School District and Joseph Street property. Other improvements in the project will include new curbs, sidewalks and widening all parts of the improvements. The underground work is part of phase three of $1.2 million in improvements.

Lincoln County Libby
A child development workshop sponsored by Kootenai Valley Head Start will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 8. The program will focus on how children develop during the first two years of life and how brain development can be affected before and after birth.
