Americans Gain Power-Play Ace
Tri-City, beefing up for a run at the Western Hockey League title, acquired right wing Curtis Huppe and 17-year-old right wing Andrew Guindon from the Lethbridge Hurricanes to complete a busy trading day Monday.
Huppe’s 96-mph shot will fit well in the Tri-City powerplay scheme. Seventeen of his 33 goals have come with the extra attacker on the ice.
The Americans, who also acquired defenseman Brad Ference from Spokane on Monday, sent center Nathan Barrett, 17, and defenseman Ryan Jorde, 16, to Lethbridge.
Also, the Kelowna Rockets dealt the top scorer in team history, Bret McLean, to the Brandon Wheat Kings for defenseman Andrew Kaminsky, center Ryan Johnson and a draft pick. Brandon also picked up goaltender Jason Chimera from Medicine Hat.
Kelowna added Regina defenseman Gerad Adams, 20.
Portland picked up Luc Theoret from Lethbridge for center Todd Hornung. During the weekend, the Winter Hawks also peddled defenseman Shaun Jones-Parry to Prince George for forward Michael Kiesman.
The Red Deer Rebels, who visit Spokane Wednesday, acquired defenseman Ryan Bonni, No. 2 in the league in penalty minutes, from Saskatoon. Defenseman Chris Ovington went to Saskatoon.
