Vandals Drub Visitors From N.Y.

For this, Iona may have traveled too far.

The Gaels from New Rochelle, N.Y., ran into trouble at the Kibbie Dome Thursday night and fell to Idaho 95-67 in a non-conference basketball game televised on ESPN.

Idaho led throughout the first half, but it was just 19-16 until a steal by Avery Curry and a dunk by Kaniel Dickens helped spark a run that gave the Vandals a 34-23 lead inside the 4-minute mark. Iona did not threaten in the second half.

Idaho led 38-29 at halftime.

The momentum continued in the second half as the Vandals scored the first five points for a 43-29 lead. Idaho’s advantage was 73-44 near the 8-minute mark and eventually reached 30 points, 89-59, with 3 minutes remaining.

Idaho improved to 12-8. Iona, of the Metro Atlantic, fell to 12-11.

Idaho, 6-3 in the Big West, plays a conference game at North Texas (1-8, 1-18) on Saturday.
