Northport Wins Division

Area girls

Northport had individual and team highlights to celebrate on Friday.

Karen Sauvola and Candace Young hit important milestones as the visiting Mustangs defeated Inchelium 60-29 to wrap up the Panorama North Division title.

Sauvola scored 17 to surpass 1,500 career points (1,504) and Young added 16 points to eclipse the 1,000-point mark (1,009). Northport is 70-28 during their careers.

Northport opens the Panorama League tournament at home on Tuesday against South No. 4 Springdale. Inchelium completed its season.

Lisa Campobasso hit 4 of 7 3-pointers and Joleen Hover added seven assists for Republic. The Tigers open the league tourney at home on Tuesday against South No. 3 Selkirk.

Lyda Nicodemus hit three 3-pointers in the second half and Josie Hudspeth finished with 12 rebounds as the Lions defeated the Redskins at Hunters to earn the No. 3 seed from the North and hand Wellpinit the No. 4.

Columbia’s Becky MacMillan had seven rebounds, three steals and shot 5 of 7 from the line.

Columbia will open the league tourney Tuesday at South No. 2 Northwest Christian. Wellpinit opens at Class B top-ranked and South champ St. George’s (17-2).

Tawny Ramseyer added 16 rebounds, 11 on the offensive end, to lead Springdale’s 55-35 edge. Amy Urann scored 25 for St. Michael’s, which ended its first season with a varsity program.

Nicole Hunt and Andrea Iksic of the Tigers combined to score 23 in the second half. Odessa took the lead with 2:58 left.

Tiffany Pittman added eight rebounds, four assists, 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 4-of-4 shooting from the line for Colfax. The Bulldogs lead Freeman by two games with two left.
