Spokane Police arrested two people late Friday and early Saturday in separate stabbing assaults.

The first, occurred in the 100 block of South Browne, where a 19-year-old male had been stabbed in the face, police said. He was taken to an area hospital.

He was in the apartment of Daniel F. McCullen, 156 South Browne, when a dispute escalated to violence. Police found a trail of blood drops between the victim’s apartment and McCullen’s.

McCullen had blood on his clothing and was booked into jail for second-degree assault, police said.

In the second assault, a woman argued with a couple in a tavern in the 400 block of West Sprague, police said. The woman was found lying on the sidewalk with a stab wound in the shoulder when police arrived. They traced a license plate of the couple’s car.

Nelson E. Mariani, 1021-1/2 West Eighth Ave., told police he had only defended himself. A folding knife was discovered in his pocket. He was booked into jail on first-degree assault.
