Pepperdine, two weeks away from its Feb. 19 rematch with Gonzaga, continues to hold second place after defeating Loyola Marymount 97-83 in Malibu, Calif. The Lions had defeated their Los Angeles-area rival 90-77 on Wednesday. Marc McDowell scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Waves. Jelani Gardner added 22 points and eight rebounds for Pepperdine, which equaled last season’s win total… . Tom Lippold scored a career-high 20 points to lead San Diego to an 89-62 victory over Portland in San Diego. Lippold came off the bench to hit 12 of 13 free throws as San Diego hit a season-high 65.3 percent (30 of 46)… . Nathan Fast scored 20 points and visiting Santa Clara held off San Francisco 68-61 after blowing nearly all of a 21-point lead.

Brian Heinle scored 23 points to pace Cal State Northridge’s 76-74 upset of visiting Northern Arizona. His tip-in with 5.7 seconds left gave CSUN a 75-74 lead. Heinle then hustled back on defense, stole the ball and was fouled when NAU tried a long pass.
Heinle made 1 of 2 and NAU didn’t get off a final shot… . Eddie Gill hit five of Weber State’s 13 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead the Wildcats’ 91-50 victory over visiting Sacramento State. The Wildcats played without conference scoring leader Harold Arceneaux, who was suspended one game for fighting in Thursday’s loss at Montana… . Nate Holmstadt had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead five players in double figures in Montana State’s 82-63 victory over visiting Idaho State. Montana State has won its last four league games.
