Makahs Return Boat To Whaling Protesters
An inflatable boat seized by Makah tribal members last fall has been returned to whaling protesters, who in turn have promised to stay off the Indian reservation.
The Zodiac was returned to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society on Saturday at the Clallam County Courthouse here before a dispute over the legality of the confiscation could get to court.
The boat was seized Nov. 1 in Neah Bay, Wash., during a confrontation between tribal members and protesters against the Makahs’ plans to resume hunting gray whales after a 70-year hiatus.
