Fairchild Engineers, Newspaper Are Tops

From Staff

Fairchild Air Force Base’s newspaper and civil engineering squadron were recently named best in the Air Mobility Command and the entire Air Force, respectively.

The Air Mobility Command is one of several divisions within the Air Force.

This is the second time in three years the “Fairchild Connection” has been named the best of the 11 papers in the Air Mobility Command. Last year, the paper won second place.

The paper’s staff are Staff Sgt. Jim Verchio, chief of internal public affairs; Airman 1st Class Joey Cowsert, editor; and Airman 1st Class Stacey Coville, staff writer.

Maj. Marc Brown, base spokesman, oversees the office where the paper is produced.

The 92nd Civil Engineering Squadron at Fairchild beat out 84 squadrons to be named the best in the Air Force.

The unit has 370 personnel and is commanded by Lt. Col. Wayland Patterson. Last year, it was named best in the Air Mobility Command.

The civil engineers are responsible for everything from clearing snow at the base to bomb disposal.
