Work Begins On Cheney-Amber Lake Trail

Work was scheduled to begin this week on the Spokane County portion of the Columbia Plateau Trail.

Washington State Parks and Recreation crews will be crushing and laying rock throughout the spring on 12 miles of trail between Cheney and Amber Lake.

The $741,000 state budget also calls for rest rooms, parking and an information kiosk to be added at the Cheney trailhead.

The horse and bike trail was started in 1991 and eventually will run 130 miles from Fish Lake to Pasco along an abandoned Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway bed.

The state Parks Commission is seeking people with historical information on the railroad.
