New Galant Debuts
Mitsubishi brings forth a new Galant this year it’s longer, wider and taller than before and sports an new body that incorporates subtle design hints from the uplevel Diamante.
There’s a new V-6, a 3-liter powerplant that makes 195-hp, and a hot GTZ model with spoiler, alloy wheels, monochromatic grille and sport tuned suspension.
It is, unfortunately, available only with a four-speed automatic, although Galants or dered with the base, 145-hp, 2.4-liter inline four can be had with a five-speed stick.
This more spacious Galant now finds itself more or less at parity with Camry and Accord for interior room, and the six makes it competitive in the power race, as well.
Mitsubishi continues to hang in there as a major Japanese sports car force, offering the 3000GT and Eclipse, the latter of which gets an optional Sports Value Package including 16-inch racing wheels, rear spoiler and chrome exhaust tip. Black leather is now available for both the coupe and Spyder models.
The 3000GT gets a mild freshening-up, particularly around the B pillar, and a new rear spoiler.
