Initiative Votes Stand After Extra Tally
An extra 5,200 ballots counted this week made no difference in the outcomes of two Spokane initiatives.
Spokane County officials said the final number of ballots mailed in by Feb. 2 was 41,306. That’s almost 40 percent turnout of the city’s registered voters, said Elections Supervisor Tom Wilbur.
Voters easily approved a proposal to develop a north Spokane sports complex on land near Albi Stadium. The final count was 33,176 yes, 7,851 no.
An initiative to have the city take back full control of Municipal Court was soundly defeated: 29,413 no, 11,228 yes.
