Rules May Be Relaxed For Checking Teachers
Teachers may not have to submit to costly background checks whenever they begin teaching in a new district if Rep. June Judd’s recently introduced legislation is approved.
The St. Maries Democrat told members of the House Education Committee that background checks have cost one of her constituents $40 every time he has taught in a new district. He was earning $50 a day for his substitute teaching.
Judd proposed requiring background checks for substitute teachers only every three years. If a school district requires a check within the three-year period, the district would have to pay.
