ADAMS COUNTY Ritzville

The County Courthouse will receive a face lift this spring. County commissioners recently approved a $25,000 plan to replace 10 windows with insulated, bronze-tinted windows. Superior Court windows will have bottom-section sliders. In addition, Designer Carpets and Interiors of Ritzville won a bid to install 62 vertical blinds and valances at a cost of $13,547.

FERRY COUNTY Curlew

A benefit spaghetti dinner and concert will be held Saturday for the family of Tanisha Phillips, 7, who was killed recently in a car accident. The benefit will feature the African music of Kunda Marimba! Donations will be taken at the door.

GRANT COUNTY Soap Lake

Upgrades to the city sewer system could cost taxpayers double in the near future. Soap Lake’s wastewater treatment facility needs improvements to keep up with Department of Ecology effluent requirements. Drain-field expansion is also needed. The upgrades are expected to cost $3.2 million.

LINCOLN COUNTY Sprague

Clay Wilken, a senior at Sprague High School and Lincoln County 4-H member, has been selected as one of 20 teens across the United States to serve on the National 4-H Youth Voices Council. Wilken flew to Maryland to meet with other members. He also gave his opinions on programs for teens and working with corporate 4-H sponsors.

PEND OREILLE COUNTY Usk

The county Democratic Party has a new leader. Connie L. Wilson of Metaline was recently elected chairwoman. County Commissioner Joel Jacobsen was elected vice-chairman. The party also discussed its issues newsletter. Doug Lambarth will be in charge of publication.

SPOKANE COUNTY Deer Park

Deer Park Ambulance recently dedicated its newest ambulance in memory of Les Parkhurst, a longtime area resident and ambulance president who died unexpectedly Dec. 18.

STEVENS COUNTY Northport

Palouse Cove housing for seniors will have tours of the new complex Feb. 21, 24 and 29 from noon to 3:30 p.m. The complex is in the South Hill neighborhood of Palouse at 351 Palouse Cove Road. BENEWAH COUNTY St. Maries

Benewah Community Hospital will offer an adult CPR class from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday for $10 at the hospital. A first aid course will also be offered for $45 from 6 to 10 p.m. March 15-16. “Swing into Spring,” highlighting music of the 1930s and 1940s, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 13 in Schuler Auditorium at North Idaho College. Performers include the North Idaho Dance Ensemble, the Coeur d’Aleers and Michael McGiveney, who will present his famous quick-change act as it was seen on the Ed Sullivan Show. Kellogg sixth-graders are collecting aluminum can tabs until May for the Ronald McDonald House in Spokane. Tabs are traded in for time on kidney dialysis machines. Last year, students nationwide collected about 50,000 pounds of tabs. You can donate tabs to students or drop them off at the school.

LINCOLN COUNTY Libby

The Rural Community Assistance program has money available for fiscal year 1999. The program assists rural communities dependent on natural resources to develop projects for long-term social, environmental and economic sustainability. Applicants may apply for a grant to form community action teams and develop plans. Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000. Application packets are available through local district rangers or from Leanne Marten at the Kootenai Forest Supervisor’s Office. Proposals must be submitted by March 31.
