District Needs Lc Plot To Begin Construction

From Staff Reports

Spokane School District 81 has taken legal steps to get quick possession of property needed for the Lewis and Clark High School expansion.

The district filed a condemnation petition Friday in Spokane County Superior Court.

The property, which includes most of the block just east of LC between Fourth and Fifth avenues, is owned by a group known as the Clack Trust.

The petition would allow the owners to give the district immediate access to the property while negotiations on a purchase price continue.

The district has offered $1.2 million for the property. Lawyers for the trust say the owners want $1.7 million.

The district has already acquired the rest of the block, where construction of a new gym facility and athletic fields is scheduled to begin this year.

District officials say they need to begin construction work in the next few months.
