Special Programs Planned For Lent
As Lent begins this week, many South Side and West Plains churches are planning weekly services or programs in preparation for Easter. Some of these events are listed below.
The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will have a weekly Lenten family program each Wednesday through March 24. Each evening will begin with Eucharist at 6 p.m. followed by a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m., and programs for adults and children at 7:15 p.m.
The theme for the adult program is “Transitions” and the children’s program is titled “Let’s Dream.”
The Cathedral is also starting an eight-week class designed to help parents foster spirituality at home. “Encouraging Christian Spirituality in Parenting” begins today and will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. each Thursday. Discussions will be based on the book “Christian Parenting” by John and Betsy Smylie.
For more information, call 838-4277. The Cathedral is located at 127 E. 12th.
Manito United Methodist Church, 3220 S. Grand, will offer two programs during Lent. A soup supper will be served at 6 p.m. each Wednesday through March 24. Those attending can chose one of two programs that will be offered.
The first program will use the video series “Affluenza” by Tony Campoto. The second is called FaithHome, a program designed for families to help them grow in faith together as they learn about God and the Christian Faith. The FaithHome program will run for nine weeks, extending past the end of Lent.
