Tech Shares Push Stock Prices Lower

From Staff

The Dow industrials dove into the closet for the second day in a row on Wednesday, matching big losses in the broader market that resulted from aggressive sales of technology shares.

The Dow Jones industrial average ended down 101.56 at 9,195.47 after sliding 95 points in the final hour.

Despite the big drop in the index, the leadership was thin. Declining issues outnumbered advancers by only a small margin on the New York Stock Exchange, and volume was 878.8 million shares, anemic by recent standards, although still up from Tuesday’s pace.
