ALPINE SKIING/SNOWBOARDING

49 Degrees North will host the Scheimo Cup Race Saturday, which is open to the public. The ski patrol test for next year’s patrol team also is scheduled for Saturday. Applications are due today.
The Super Derby Boarder Cross for skiers and snowboarders will be held at Mount Spokane on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Pre-registration ends at 9 a.m.
NORDIC SKIING
Groomers on the Schweitzer Mountain trails have been busy this week and report excellent nordic skiing conditions throughout the system.
Also at Schweitzer, the Star Light Race Series concludes Thursday night. Food and beverage specials and prizes will be available afterward. Info: (800) 831-8810.
In the Methow Valley area, the entire community trail system from Winthrop to Brown’s Farm to the Mazama Junction were groomed this week.
SNOWMOBILING
Also in the Methow Valley, groomers have also been busy in the Rendezvous Snowmobile system. The area has received a few inches of new snow this week and conditions are excellent.
AVALANCHE WATCH
An avalanche watch has been issued for the backcountry of Shoshone County above Timberline on the north- and east-facing slopes. These are high-risk warnings. There have been reports of sudden snow releases caused by high winds.
