In yet another sign that U.S. banks are anticipating slower growth, First Union Corp. confirmed it may eliminate as many as 7,150 jobs, or 10 percent of its work force, to cut costs.

NEC Corp., Japan’s biggest computer maker, will cut 15,000 jobs, or nearly 10 percent of its work force, over three years.

Coca-Cola announced Friday that it will begin selling bottled water by the beginning of summer.
