Bomb Hoax Closes Courthouse

The Stevens County Courthouse was closed to the public for 3-1/2 hours Tuesday while local officers and a bomb-sniffing dog team from Fairchild Air Force Base searched the building for explosives.

Sheriff Craig Thayer said the search, which found nothing, was prompted by a report of vague-but-threatening remarks by a man who was suffering mental problems. The man was referred to the county counseling service, and was not charged.
